Dug a hole with water in it - is that normal?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

I recently had my fence replaced, the people doing the work dug deeper to install the new fence posts, and the hole that they dug was filled with water. It was not raining that day but there was light rain the day before. Is that normal? Should I be worried that they hit a pipe? They told me it was normal and nothing to worry about and I'd like to think they know what they are doing, but I am slightly worried.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This depends on where you live ie old flood planes in a low lieing area or valley. Test your water pressure in the house.Flush toilets to assure yourself. If non of these affected should be just the case of ground water.

its quite a common thing to have water seep into an excavated hole although you shouldn't rule out damage to a water pipe or drain. as said above, you should probably do all the checks mentioned. If its a water supply pipe thats been damaged you will move than likely hear it hissing by said hole.
