Is it normal to have scratches on new windows and UPVC frame
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM
We've just had our UPVC windows replaced. Upon close inspection, there are scratches on almost every glass panel and on many frames. I'd appreciate some advice, how much of this is to be expected? Shouldn't we expect glasses and frames to be spotless? Many thanks for your help!

Should be no scratches on the frame, if they are light they can be buffed out with a pvc cleaner and micro fibre cloth.
Do NOT use “CIF” it contains bleaching agents which can break down the uv coating.
If the scratches are deep on the pvc you can get a professional in to “sizel brush them out.
Pilkington glass say if you can’t see the scratch from 9 feet the it’s not a problem ( all depends on the size but if it’s a recent installation I would consult the installer)
Toughened safety glass is softer so scratches easy that’s down to the heat treatment processes.
Hope this is helpful ( installer for over 44 year)

Short answer is no, the product should be spotless.
You do sometimes get a few superficial marks which can be easily removed. If you’d like to send some pictures I would be more than happy to advice further.
Some companies will have conditions in place where you have to few the product from a curtain distance and is a glazing standard
