Patching up some holes in external render

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, I’ve had some external insulation and render ontop recently which I had a decorative screen installed ontop, due to the recent gales and strong winds the decorative screen was blown off and left some holes in the render - the holes are 1cm, how do I patch these up? Filler and paint over or outdoor silicone and paint over? Which brands?

I would mix a bit of sand and cement up to fill the holes

If you have external insulation fitted to your walls I would use expanding foam to fill the hole let set then cut back to the depth of the render pva glue the holes then use render to fill on top smooth over let it dry then paint. If you use sand and cement all the way it can cause a cold bride for the wall.

I would coat holes with unibond for added traction & fill with sand & cement mixture

As long as the insulation isn't damaged, we would clean the holes of lose materials, use unibond to seal any dust and provide a good key for the render mix to adhere to, when the small newly filled patches/holes are dry we would use toupret exterior cement based filler to feather off any edges of the patches/holes and finish the decoration with weather shield exterior paint, to ensure a smooth invisible repair of the holes
