Low beam on stairs in older house

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hello, We are looking at a property which has a beam across the stairway reducing the head height to ~5'6" when stood directly under. It is in the centre of the house and looks to be support. What would we potentially be looking at to alter the beam please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Without looking at the beam in question it's really impossible to give any idea of what would be involved in removing it as it could be supporting any number of things,. What does the surveyor say he has viewed the house &beam in question. Good luck Alex

The words” look to be a support” seem to be a loose term. Any area which is supporting needs a structural engineers report. If you don’t and come to sell the property it could come back and haunt you.
