Conservatory question

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi we have a conservatory that is floor to ceiling windows. It has a normal conservatory roof and no radiators as no brick wall around at all. What would be the best way to go about converting this into a usable space? I’ve seen that roofs can be replaced to insulate the room but with floor to ceiling windows and nowhere to fit radiators too I can’t see this will do much….all the adverts I’ve seen are for the conservatories that have half brick walls all the way around. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You could install an electric underfloor heating system depending on what flooring you currently have down and whether you’d be happy to remove it. It would basically be an electric mat that you lay down connected to a thermostat and then you can install new flooring over the top. This would sufficiently heat your conservatory but can be fairly costly to run. Hope this helps

Hi, if you have a polycarbonate roof then that is where you will lose most of the heat. A warm roof would definitely make this more usable and you could also look into what glass the conservatory has in the sides as this can be improved to prevent heat loss.

you could change a window to a panel board and fit a radiator to that

I like the other answer but with all that glass it’s going to take a lot to keep it warm, you could plumb in free standing radiators but to be honest the cost plus a insulated roof it might be cheaper to change one wall to stud work and clad the outside and insulated this wall if you had a north wall which will always be a cold wall then put a radiator on that wall but to be honest I would look at replacing it entirely as it might be cheaper to start from scratch and do it properly
