buzz in my interior partician wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

hi. i have a buzz in my kitchen partician wall. i turned off one of two socket switches on the switch board and the buzz stopped. 2 hours later i turn that flip switch back on and theres no buzz. when the buzz was present it was prolonged and while i paid attention i didnt hear any brakes in it for a fair bit of time if i call out electrician and theres no buzz is it an impossible job? if i can no longer hear the buzz is the problem likely to be gone? many thanks

I'd definitely recommend having someone out who is experienced in testing. The risk of the fault being an arc fault and causing a house fire is too great to ignore. We have ways of testing the cabling to bring up a fault as you've described even if the buzzing has gone.

If you no longer hear the buzz I wouldn't worry, but if it does come back I would recommend further investigation from an electrician to see whats going on. Might not be any issues, but there could be, so its worth someone qualified checking to make sure. Next time you hear it record a video and see if you can figure out where its coming from. That would help alot with an investigation.

It sounds as though it’s a loose connection on one of your accessories. After a while connections become loose this is why we do things called EICR’s these tests will also confirm the continuity of your ring final circuits. It’s important to get your property tested just for peace of mind too. Safety doesn’t have a price.

Buzz most likely is a loose connection or there's a transform in the wall partition

A buzzing sound is generally some form of transformer, could be anything from a dimmer switch, Failed USB socket, or maybe even a doorbell transformer in close proximity. Whatever may be the cause, I would highly recommend an electrician to attend to investigate and highlight the cause and rectify where needed for that piece of mind.
