Stiebel Electron electric tankless water heater

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

UPDATE: the unit I was looking to install is the DCE-X 10/12 Premium Stiebel Eltron Has anyone installed an electric tankless water heater for a shower? I wanted to install a Stiebel-Eletron electric tankless water heater in my bathroom to feed the basin and the shower. I talked to their technical team and they told me I could have any shower with this unit. Yet when I was about to install it, the plumber told me it was not going to be good enough for a shower. I contacted Stiebel-Eletron again, and they said that running the unit at its max capacity the best I'd get was 7 Litres per minute, which meant I could not have a shower that would demand more than that flow rate or I'd gate temperature fluctuations. The thing is that all showers on the market at a 2 bar pressure (which is what I have in my flat) deliver almost 20L/m. I'm very confused how Stiebel-Eletron can then say their unit is suitable to feed a shower? Am I missing something? Is there a different tankless water heater on the market that CAN feed a shower with a higher flow rate? Many thanks!

Hi, good morning. Without the benefit of seeing your proposed installation, its a little difficult to give precise advice. 1/ Why are you not feeding the shower off your main supply /stored hot water? 2/ There are many other manufacturers of "flash" water heating systems on the market, maybe more research on your part is required. As for advise from manufacturers, in most cases they'll tell you anything to achieve a sale? I trust this assists in a small measure? Luck and regards Neil

You don’t state the capacity of the heater they do several models, they are fitted with a water pressure reduction valve, this governs the pressure to the shower, and taps ,and this cylinder is mains fed so you need one with the right capacity to supply your water needs

Why not fit a small Megaflow cylinder which will meet all your requirements.

7 ltr per min is pretty poor but what you install comes down to what electrical supply you have or can install to the point of heating the water, the more power the more hot water. Personally i wouldn't fit less than a 12 kw, there are 9kw available but come winter as we are now it will be a pretty poor output. To say the heater produces 7ltr per min is misleading as it comes down to kw vs water tempreture. As for the person saying about a mega flow - that's not the question asked and a completely different job, not least cost!!
