Recent rubber coating on flat roof - tiny cracks
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM
We have just had our flat roof rubber coated, but I have noticed new small cracks cracks all over the roof. I have no knowledge of roofing so do not know if this is ok or needs redoing. It looks like too much rubber has been applied and it has cracked when drying. Is this an issue? Will this cause and water to penetrate through the cracks?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It’s poor installation and the deck hasn’t been cleaned proper with the right cleaner and not installed propaly but can be repaired easily and it’s causing shrinking I would say I do not recommend rubber roof systems

There are different grades of rubber roofs and unfortunately different grades of fitters. there shouldn’t be cracks in your rubber.

I think it’s a little harsh to say it’s not been installed correctly, could be any number of reasons for the cracking. Manufacturers of the products claim it can be used on all surfaces in most conditions and the answer to all flat roof problems.
It may be worth asking the installers to apply another coat paying attention to the ideal application times and checking joints and cracks with a suitable pu sealant.

Please provide what type or name of the rubber coating that was applied to your roof or maybe some photos may help but the splits or cracking of the coating is not a good sign
