External Wall insulation and render

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hi, I'm need your advice to address following information. We are looking for External Wall insulation with silicon render system. One of my builder suggested to hack off Pebble dash render (current situation), insulate 50mm XPS insulation and render with Weber webertherm M1 mineral finish, please suggest whether Weber is suitable product to go with External insulation and any other factors I need to consider before deciding the work. Input is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there Webber is one option on the market, your will also get a good U value with k render as well. You have been advised right on hacking the rendering off (giving you a better finish) and installing Xps insulation.

Hi. If your pebble dash is in good condition, you can always scrim and pin (every 1m2) and apply the insulation on top and the rest, and you'll need to do a pull test too. But if it is coming apart, then best to hack it off. The insulation boards vary from 20mm to 220mm thickness, so this will depend on your choice but also how much room you have on the eaves, windows etc.. as you'll need at least 40mm overhang (hope I make sense here) but there are profiles that extend the drip area (over sills etc.) XPS is commonly used but you also have the option of mineral wool, fibre and also the Aerated XPS which helps with the breathability of the walls. As per render, they are all the same (on paper) K-Rend, Weber, Johnstones, BAUMIT, so the choice is yours but also what the plasterer is comfortable with too. Hope I've given you some options. Good luck

Like my colleague say, if the pebble dash is in good condition just insulation on top. Is the best way ,I prefer to use the hp12 from K Render or Licata raso w160 on top of the insulation (base coat)
