Damp internal living room floor

Anonymous user 21 February 2022 - 6.18 PM

Hi THere, Had a leak in my downstairs cloakroom from the toilet. This went un noticed for a few months untill we noticed damp in the living room concrete floor.. The leaking pipe is now fixed what is the best way to dry out the floor and walls. We have had advice from a company who said that the floor needs to be dug up and replaced even though the floor is now starting to dry out. Any advice please. Kind Regards.

Hi the first thing you need to do is to check the moisture levels with a moisture meter. Depending on the building materials and the levels of moisture the affected area's may dry out or you may need to have a drying program with the use of dehumidification and air to rectify.

A decnt dehumidifier will do a good job for you. You can hire them for a weekend for around £40.

I wouldn't imagine you would have to dig up the floor ,you could try ether let plenty of air into the room by opening up windows and doors or make the room as air tight as possible and hire a dehumidifier for a week or 2 whilst monitoring the moisture levels in the room
