Float and Set or plasterboard and skim?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hi, we have a bedroom that is back to brick and we are wondering what is best - float and set or plasterboard and skim? Local plasterers seem reluctant to float and set, but husband thinks traditional float and set would be a better insulator and less cracking. Thank you!

Float and set better option as it’s more of a solid finish

Float and setting is labour intensive and notoriously messy process, also time is a factor. Id reccomend dot and dabbing insulated plasterboards on exterior walls for the insulation requirements and dab the rest with 12.5mm standard boards and plaster. If done correctly it will leave a flat and solid finish that shouldnt crack.

Obviously sand and cement or hardball will give you good solid walls but dot&dabbing also has it's benefits ie much quicker drying time can feel warmer no reason for cracking you can always apply more adhesive on areas that you may need to use for fixing like radiator brackets
