High TVOC on air quality meter after heating running for a number of hours?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

High TVOC reading on air quality meter after heating running for a number of hours from boiler cupboard? It is also causing an awful smell in both the cupboard and the bedroom that the boiler is in. We are also now getting gas readings from above the boiler setting off both alarms in the TVOC and Gas detector. What could be causing this? We have turned off the gas, even though we have already had numerous gas safety checks because of all this and they all said they found nothing. How have they been missing it all these years? Thank you. UPDATE: Had an emergency engineer out and although at first he didn't notice anything we told him to check where he and other engineers hadn't, the area above the boiler and his alarm went off. He quickly turned off the gas both inside and out as well as capping it off so it couldn't be used. We then got Worcester boiler engineer out as its still within warranty, he said he found nothing but did tighten all areas he could access and funny enough that made all the difference. No smell anymore. He was obviously trying to save the Worcester engineer who came previously. Still, all done now. Many thanks to My Heating Services for taking the time to reply.

It sounds like the products of combustion are leaking from your boiler for some reason. You have done the correct thing and turned the gas off, also I would advise not using the boiler until it's been checked and someone says why the alarm is going off(it isn't just sounding for no reason) It's difficult to pinpoint the problem without knowing what make and model of boiler you have or actually seeing. I don't like to comment on others work so won't do so. Personally I would be servicing the boiler, confirming case seals and flue integrity, then giving a full room sweep for co2 escapes. Hope this helps. Thanks Mark Yates MY Heating Services

Correct diagnosis without seeing the boiler in action
