Worry about unsecure and slack service entrance cable?
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.57 PM
Hi, Service entrance cable has come away from clips at front of house. It's loose, slack and almost sitting in a big loop at side of house. Cable looks in reasonable condition. Main concern is strong winds, whipping cable against brickwork and wearing it out. No supply issues. Is this something I need resecured with brackets ASAP? Or, can cable take a reasonable amount of impact until I can get it secured next week? Thanks very much

I would secure it asap. Call someone with some electrical competence to check it and secure it. If it loose in the main incoming head it can cause a fire

This isn't a job where you hire an electrician, you need to call the DNO it's their responsibility to repair it. It's also free if they do it.

The cable supplying your home is the property of the DNO (Distribution Network Operator). You should contact them to report the issue. Under no circumstances should you or any other contractor attempt a repair.
You can find your DNO here https://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/electricity-transmission/contact-us/who-is-my-distribution-network-operator

Id get it attended too ASAP. Its an easy fix and any electrician will secure and dress cable in a short time and nor should it be a big expense to get sorted.
