Should you mix aluminium rads with normal steel rads?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

We want to put a central heating radiator in our bathroom. There are 6 steel radiators already in the rest of our bungalow. I am undecided on whether to choose a steel or an aluminium radiator for the bathroom. (I have read that mixing the types of metal can cause galvanic corrosion.) What would a professional tradesperson choose if it was their bungalow?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

i would not worry about it, in your heating system you all ready have iron brass steel copper, there may also be aluminium present, so a bit more will be nothing to worry about.

There will be no conflict if you add aluminium radiators to the existing steel radiators system.

If the pipeline is made of copper pipes - in whole or in part - and if it was my home, then a steel radiator would be installed, just like in other rooms. If you choose alu, I would use an inhibitor before filling the system with water and after each refilling to prevent galvanic corrosion.

No Problem, aluminium with steel rads, just be particular about plenty of inhibitor, in system, corrosive prevention
