Roofing

mortar or dry fit ridge tiles

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.03 PM

Hi looking for advice please..i share a roof with neighbour, the ridge tiles were refitted a few years ago when neighbour had some work done. It looks like they put a good dollop of mortar their side but nothing on ours...what little was on our side has now cracked and come loose. So i'm looking to get a roofer to refit/replace do i go mortar or dry fit? should i ask neighbour to help with costs i can try to add picture but if i cant id say looking at about maybe 5m in length? any idea as to costs based in the north east of england thanks in advance * sorry not sure how to reply to answer? so this is for Clarke Roofing..i'd say on my side more than 90% mortar has come away from all of the ridge tiles. On their side i'd say about 80% still there.. ** clarke roofing....youre making perfect sense if it was the ridge tiles at the front of property...its me not clarifying at the start this is a shared roof at rear of property, 1 set of ridge tiles between us, when they retiled her roof they took ridge tiles off and then refitted (badly in my opinion as no mortar our side)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You should definitely ask for the costs refunded, if they refuse threaten them with a small claims court. Anyone working on a party wall, must ensure no damage or lesser work is done. Go for it

How much cement has come lose? Is it one ridge tile thats lost its mortar? Edited So did they remove your ridges and your neighbours. Then re-bed them all? They should of only lifted the ridge tile (on your roof) next to the last one of theirs on the side they were working on. I dont see the need for them to remove your ridges along with the property they were working on, if this is what they did. I hope im making sense

The rear roof as I believe covers half of your property and half of your neighbours? If this is correct then your neighbour and or their builder is responsible for making sure your side is good. I would say that you reach an agreement and install a dry system which is maintenance free.
