Electrical

Installation of electric cooker, gas hob and cooker hood.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.03 PM

Hiya, I stupidly got a full house rewire with no real plan for the kitchen reno. I'm now having to think about the amount of outlets I've been left with. I have one cooker isolating switch unit with a 6mm cable. Beside this I have one dble socket. That's it.The more I look into this, I think I need another spur as the gas hob will need electricity to ignite, the electric oven will need to use the cable and I have no way of powering the cooker hood. My question is, what will the one cooker socket actually facilitate (I could forgo the gas hon and put in induction/electric hob) and how much does it cost to put another spur in for the hood. Any and all advice welcome. Cheers

As you have a gas hob, you could use the 6mm feed for you oven(s) and run into a cooker connection plate. With your 1 socket you can run a radial circuit to a number of new points providing it's backed up at fuseboard by a 16amp MCB..so you can have a number of outlets installed providing they are not overloaded (hence the 16amp MCB). YThey should've ran a new ring main for the kitchen when doing a rewire

To be honest , very difficult to advise for m your description ,as no idea where your single socket is fed from,,nor its cable ,(as stated you can spur off this to several new points ,) all depends on what current MCB rating is for current socket as to what this will allow you do , assuming it is kitchen ,this can be a heavy load area , induction jobs can be run off 13anp plug top ,if you get the correct one , so I suppose honest answer is you have to decide what you need ,and tell a local electrician and sadly re plan and re do the work you have already had ,but now to a plan of actual requirements,

With regards to using the 6mm cable for the gas hob I would advise not to use the cooker outlet plates as the hob would require local protection via a 3 amp fuse. Using the cable isn't an issue but protecting the appliance is. The radial circuit is correct and the recommendation for a new ring main I would also endorse.
