Plastering & Rendering

beading around my media wall is cracking

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

Hi we had a media wall built and plastered the first week in December 2021 now the beading under the plaster is visible and the plaster on the beading is cracking.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The wall may not have been prepped properly before plastering the wall. The plaster could have also dried out too quick if the heating has been on very high. You can cut the cracks out and fill them but it won’t last for long.

Cracking can be caused due to many reasons; Movement Dry time Bond failure Etc I would advise scraping the crack out (making the crack deeper and wider) and then fill with any decent filler.

The first answer is partially correct in that it could have dried out to quickly, especially as it was plastered in December, and the heating would then go on? However if the beads are removed and then new beads bedded on instead of nailing on, this enables some plaster to get under the beads as well as on top , and then blend the new skim over the new beads and into the existing plastered wall .
