Is K Rend suitable for refurbishing sandstone bay window mullions
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM
I have sandstone bay windows which are in need of refurbishing as there is water ingress which is making the interior damp under the window. I have been told its the silicone trims on the UPVC windows that has failed. Would K Rend up to the frames solve this problem and would it be OK to foam fill the interiors around the window frames.

If your doing a render repair job on your cills and mullions make sure it’s a lime based breathable mortar.
If it’s not and there’s cement mixed through it no doubt it’ll make damp problems worse later down the line. Also make sure it’s 5°+ while doing this so don’t get frost damage.
For sealing the exterior of the windows linseed putty is always a good option.
Using expanded foam isn’t advised as it can still allow damp, your best of building it up with lime and sand mortar 3/1 mix with some rubble for bigger gaps if you have some handy.

Remmers is the product I would recommend. It comes in a variety of colours to match the existing and for bigger areas a little mesh infill helps the strength and integrity of remmers
