Eternit slate roof

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

The customer has asked me to marine ply the shed roof, then felt and batten, then finish with eternit slates. Would this not cause condensation between the felt and the ply? Which then lead to dampness?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Breathable roof membranes are crucial in pitched roofing projects, as they prevent the build-up of condensation, which can lead to damp, mould and rot. They allow moisture to move out of the roof space, whilst still preventing rainwater ingress, ensuring that the roof space stays dry.

Yes regardless of what ever felt you use, breathable membrane still requires ventilation you could counter batten it to achieve an air gap. Your customer is listening to all the the hype about marine ply it's only the glues that are more water proof ply is still wood that will rot if you do it the way they want it will last a few years at most. Good luck alex

It can do. But if you have the right ventilation and using breathable felt then you should be fine the ventilation is crucial in this scenario.
