Plastering & Rendering

Cracked or blown render

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 2.53 PM

My house has been recently reendered and in parts big mosaic cracks have appeared and some render is crumbly. When you tap the cracks they sound hollow. The guy who did it says the cracks are my fault because I didn't "prime and paint it after the drying out period of 28 days in line with the Render association guidelines for the product. Cracks often appear if the render is not ‘stabilised’ in this way." Firstly this is news to me as is the Render Association and secondly is this damage caused by a lack of painting? I've heard of people not painting render at all and it has lasted for years.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The only reason he said that is because it gave him time to jump on his horse and ride off!! People like that give tradesmen a bad name. Sounds like the mix is strong enough or HIS prep was all wrong.
