Do we need building control/permission to change lintel/windows/doors on side of house?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

Hi guys, would really appreciate on whether we need building control approval for our planned work: Replacing existing kitchen window (1470mm wide) on side of house (ground floor), with new door (800mm wide) and new smaller window (400mm wide). I believe the existing lintel will need to be replaced with one ~300mm longer. There will be a block pillar between the new window and door, adding support for lintel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will

Hi Will You can change your window to the doors you want. One suggestion and you would need to is to make sure you put props into position to hold the house up while putting the beam in and the doors. If you need help with anything else please give me a message Alex

Hi Will you will either have to apply to the building control dept in your area to inspect the work to obtain a building regs certificate or get a Fensa approved contractor who can give self certify . The certificate would be required if you move house as move and more surveyers are requesting these to ensure the windows and doors meet the current regulations .
