I am having 600x600 porcelain tiles put in my hallway, kitchen and cellar soon. There is a long crack which goes from my cellar floor across the hallway. It’s a concrete floor and we can see where the crack begins and ends. The closest picture I can compare it to from the internet is this https://buyersask.com/wp-content/uploads/Garage-floor-cracked-6633-250x188.jpg but this isn’t an actual image of my floor. I’m being told by various tiling “experts” that my tiles are going to crack when they’ve been completed (over time) regardless of how much effort is put into preparing the floor to prevent this from happening. How is this the case? I’ve been told that no matter whether I use tile membrane or any sort of floor levelling is done, having tiles will be a waste of money because the effort isn’t worth it and they will still crack. Apparently even if I pay a lot of extra money for resources to seal the crack, the tiles will still eventually crack one day. I’ve heard from family members who have had tiles crack in their home that they only crack if you have a cowboy builder do the job or if you use the wrong type of adhesive. I have already accumulated loads of tiles ready for the job to be complete, I’m not in a position to return them. Can someone please offer some clarity on whether I can get the tiles to survive without cracking? It’s only a two person household and limited movement takes place in the house so I would think they should last a long time.
