kettle plug fuse melted - issue with plug or socket

Hi, this morning our kettle plug started smoking. We shut off the power at the mains, detached the plug from the socket, on inspection it looks like the fuse in the plug melted. the kettle is nearing 10 years old, and is now chucked out, the plug socket appears to have burn stains arking out from where the fuse in the plug would have pressed against. my question is whether i am safe to assume the problem was with the plug or whether I need to get an electrician in to check the socket? any advice appreciated!

Get an electrician in to check out the socket….asap! Don’t use it until it’s been checked over.

Too early to decide what is the issue, would recommend having your socket checked and tested by some qualified and competent just to be safe

Whether or not it was the socket or plug, you will need to get the socket checked, and probably replaced as this may have caused heat damage to the socket.
