Soundboard / wallboard / Fireboard

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, I’m converting a property into a 9-bed HMO. At the ceiling stage for plasterboard. I’m not sure what to do on the ceiling to get good sound and fire protection/durability plus cost effective on the plasterboard and labour. Under the joists I am fitting Rockwool RWA45 Acoustic Insulation Slabs. On the ceilings I have a number of options. 1. 12.5mm Double Wallboard. This will give me 60 minutes Fire and 42db sound. 2. 12.5mm fire board. This will give me 60 minutes Fire and not sure on db but maybe 37db. 3. 12.5mm sound board. This will give me 30 minutes Fire and 39db 4. 15mm soundboard with Fire. This will be give 60 minutes Fire and 40db sound. Wallboard is about £6 Fire/sound is about £12 Sound with Fire is about £24. If I double up the wallboard. Cost gets to £12 but then there is the additional labour to factor in. In response to the 1st question. My building control guy is unresponsive to my messages - so he is no use. I will need to find out what the council require. In response to the 2nd question. Unfortunately all I have got from the architect / building reg plans is 13mm plasterboard. No other detail. Needless to say I won’t be using either building control officer or the architect again.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

What do your local council/building control specify?

You should work to the architects and engineers drawings and this should ensure you comply with the current building regulations suitable for this property

Hi I would following specifications on drawings, and seek extra clarification. Because the last thing you want is building regs to say its not acceptable. Hope this helps Many thanks Darren
