Lathe & plaster + hardwall?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM
Hi all, my ceilings are lathe and plaster. It needs large patches repaired. Once repaired, can it be finished with hardwall? Is hardwall suitable for this job? It's an old building that absorbs a lot of vibrations from people walking upstairs and slamming doors. Will hardwall make it more durable? Or will it crack easier? Many thanks!

You need to go over hardwall with finishing plaster such as thistle multi-finish or it won’t look good and it will eventually absorb moisture

You would probably be better counter battening and over boarding then skim with multi finish. More money but would stop the cracking.

Over board and skim, you don't need to counter batten just knock a few holes in ceiling, find the joists and ruin chalk lines through, just make sure you scrim
