Trim edge off sandstone step

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

Our patio was laid recently with a step into the garden. Where the top step meets the lawn, the edge is not straight - some slabs stick out about 1cm more than others. Not a good finish. I want to ask if it is possible to trim a thin edge off the step to make it a straight finish and what tools I would need for this. I have a small circular saw with a diamond disk. Do you think this could achieve a straight edge on sandstone? My main concern is that I will chip the sandstone and make it worse. Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Use a 9 inch grinder with a masonry blade to trim, cut both ends first then middle to avoid corners breaking

Hey James, I'm guessing that getting the team back isn't an option? Most companies expect the odd snag (admittedly it shouldn't be finished like this) so never be afraid to ask for a rectification. Otherwise you'll be fine with any diamond blade on an angle grinder; sandstone is fairly soft and easy to work with. All the best Dan

Unfortunately your question is somewhat ambiguous to give a definitive answer. Their are many different types of sandstone each different from each other. You do not specify the thickness of the slab either. The best advice under these circumstances is to seek out the person who laid the patio or a local stonemason to rectify the issue
