Vhanging a gas hob to an induction

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi, We're in the process of buying a brand new flat where the hob is working with gas but we'd like to have an induction hob instead as it's safer and looks better. Any idea what I need to consider to see if it's doable? Many thanks to all of you helping people.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

HI First you would need to see if there's an electrical point for the cooker that is sufficient for the electric hob If not then you would need to see how easy it would be to run a new cable from the board

If it is a 'brand new' flat it should already have the necessary circuit to supply a ceramic hob. I would recommend you get an electrician to check and verify that.

Hello there, It depends on the power rating of the new hob, which in turn will dictate whether it needs its own circuit from your consumer unit. Some hobs will actually come with a 3-pin plug supplied, meaning it can potentially be connected to an existing socket-outlet circuit. Others have no wiring supplied which means you’ll need to consult a local qualified electrician to wire this up and decide whether it needs its own circuit. The other thing to consider is that it will require an isolator switch in an accessible location in the kitchen.

You need to see if any socket near by, if yes please buy hub under 3kW than you don't need any further installation just plug it in, but if its over 3kW you will need dedicated circuit for your hub. It will have to be a professional electrician who can install it for you.
