Insulating a bay window
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
Hello to all who read this question. I'm in the price as of renovating my house and in one if the upstairs bedrooms we have a bay window that I suspected was lath and plaster due to some cracks. And after taking the skirting boards off it's confirmed to be lath and plaster. So I'm going to replace that with plasterboard but as there is currently nothing in this bay window other then the felt and tiles from the outside. Will cellotex be fine to use inbetween the buttons and should I use a different type of plasterboard? Any help would be great Gary

If you are building a wooden frame make sure its treated wood, leave an air gap between the outer fabric and your frame and put a damp proof membrane on the outside of your frame. Cellotex will be fine, Id use a foil backed plasterboard rather than a standard one to be safe. This will give you far better weather proofing and insulation that the old lath and plaster that was there previously.
