What can I use to fill gap between skirting Board and wooden flooring
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
Hi I have white skirting boards around the house and dark wood flooring. In some areas there are gaps that have appeared between the skirting board and the wooden floor and can feel some draught coming. What is the best thing to fill this gap? A white silicone sealant or anything else you guys would recommend. Many Thanks

A moulded 'scotia' round the edges should help cover the gap and will look neater. Please don't use silicone - any professional decorator will tell you, you can't paint on silicone so it will be a pain fpr someone when you come to paint the skirting. If you must fill the gap with something, look for a polymer sealant which will flex but can also be painted over.

Dear Yaserg,
Needs a flexible filler, such as silicon, not caulk, however the maximum I'd be happy with is 5mm. More gap than 2 or 3mm and I would probably have scribed to the floor (although TBH with a "wonky" floor I'd have smoothed things out first with either a layer of thin ply and/or some SLC before installing finished floor). I think the best and easiest thing you can do now is to install some quadrant moulding all round to cover the gaps.

Hello Yaserg,
You can get some colour coded quadrant moulding and have that fitted all around the room to cover the gap. However if you wanted to do the cheaper option you could just use white flexible silicon. Hope this helps

Hello Yaserg,
The proper way is to remove skirting and repaint, lay the floor, replace skirtings and you get a nice even gap to use clear silicone.Using White is tricky especially on a dark floor as it can stand out if it’s not done tidily. You could run masking tape on the floor to get a nice line on it(try a small area)if not you’ll have to use a trim.
