Roof tiles, replace with new or reuse old?

The roof of our semi-detached house is now over 80 years old and needs some work (loose hip tiles, no felt underlay). It was suggested to us to take the old tiles and roofing batons off, lay a water-proof felt membrane and install new batons, but then relay the old tiles and hip tiles, only replace broken ones with new. We were wondering, if it would be really much better to use new tiles at this opportunity? These are concrete tiles from the 1930s and have done the job so far. Is there any advantage (apart from cost and avoiding delay, as new tiles seem in short supply) in reusing the old tiles?

there is no advantage to using the existing tiles, concrete usually lasts 50-60yrs after which time they become brittle, to use the old tiles will result in continues maintenance work required on the roof as the roof tiles fail. there is at present a a 25-30wk lead time on new roof tiles from most of the leading manufacturers. good luck Alex

if the tiles are in a good state ,I would buy new ones for the front of the property and use the old ones on the back
