Adjusting floor and ceiling heights simultaneously on kitchen and bathroom above.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
I have a victorian terrace property and the back section with ground floor kitchen and first floor bathroom is lower than the rest of the house. (You step down from lounge to kitchen and from the top of the stairs into the bathroom.) I'd like to bring them in line and extend the kitchen out of the dog leg shape but don't want to make the two rooms with low celings. Do I have any options or alternatives? Is this type of work very expensive? Any thoughts or suggestions for further reading appreciated!

Dependant on ceiling hileights and existing doorway heights lifting the floors may be possible with the addition of supplementary joisting but a site apraisal and possible structural calculations will likely be required.
The cost of the works will largely be dependant on the structural requirements, normally there is a fairly simple and cost effective solution to this problem.
