Trader installed fuse box and now saying cannot issue EIC as his licence is expired
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
Hi There, I have hired someone in MyBuilder website. The guys installed the new fuse box. Now he left and saying he cannot issue the EIC as his licence is expired. He said he is qualified but his licence is expired and he did not know when he was working on my project. What can I do? As I know, installing new fuse box is a notifiable work and EIC. Thanks

Just get him to do the certificate and stop giving you lame excuses. You do NOT need to be licensed to issue a certificate. It is part and parcel of the job when changing a CU. Tell him to issue you with an EICR if he won't do the certificate. As for Part P, its your responsibility to notify the LABC, not the electrician. Part P registered electricians can self-certify the Part P compliance. Nothing to do with BS7671 testing and certification. If he claims to have let his membership lapse he should not be doing CU changes. Its farcical the amount of excuses electricians dream up to avoid issuing a certificate.

It is his legal responsibility to issue the certificate after changed the cu .Best practice to issue intial verfication report after change the cu ,and costumer should pay after the completion of job.

Think he is pulling your chain here, a lot. If he has lost his ‘licence’ whatever that is, then maybe he shouldn’t have taken the job on in the first place.
