Should I opt for a gas boiler considering potential future gas supply shortages?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM
Since, here in the Uk, we are reliant on other countries to supply our gas I am wondering whether or not to have a replacement gas combi-boiler fitted or move to some form of electric heating. My thinking is that if I get a new gas boiler fitted and gas supplies become scarce and/or extremely costly that a new gas boiler might be an expensive mistake. Any advice or insights would be welcome, thanks.

If you currently already have a gas boiler, stick with a gas boiler replacement. Gas will not change that much before the lifespan of your new boiler comes to an end. At the moment, the alternatives are just not up to scratch unless you have the space for a ground source heat pump (which many people do not), they are also very expensive to install.

Hi I currently work in renewable energy installing heat pumps around devon.
Gas boilers aren’t going anywhere so I don’t think this should be a concern.
But from my experience and customer feedback heat pumps are very efficient and cheaper to run than gas. However heat pumps are very expensive to install your looking at least £12,000 there are currently grants to help with the cost and make it a more viable option and questions feel free to ask :)

I agree with all of the others heat pumps are the best thing but are way to expensive and gas boilers will still be around for quite some time
