Damp Proofing

Mould/black spots in bedroom (cold facing wall)

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM

The front of our house is the coldest so not surprisingly the walls which face the front are also that tend to have black pores/condensation/mould This morning I noticed black marks against the skirting at the front room upstairs We have a 2 sided/L shaped bay window Oddly enough the long radiator is under straight part under the window but not on the bay part which has the mould on the wall Now I can put a hole in the wall and put a vent on top but it will lead to a very cold room Alternatively I can wash and paint with anti mould paint ? Will this be a good start (any particular brand?) However what is the best solution?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Cheapest solution would be to Fit trickle vents in your windows to allow a constant flow of fresh air

Condensation is due to the relative humidity of the property, you need to speak to a specialist about having an appropriate mechanical extractor fan or Positive Input Ventilation fan fitted to change the air regularly which will reduce the relative humidity and stop any mold growth.

Good airflow will help but you may have this issue when there is insufficient insulation and cold bridging occurring. Is it happening all year round?
