Radiator window seat before or after plastering the walls?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hi, I'm renovating my property and I'd like to install a window seat over the radiator in the bedroom. Who would be the right tradesman to hire? A carpenter or a window specialist? I'm also planning to have the walls replastered. Should the window seat over the radiator be installed before or after plastering the walls? Thanks in advance!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

HI Chiara, I would have the plastering done first then the window seat after that . if your planning on decoarting then it would be wise to get the fresh plaster sealed when fully dry before the carpenter fixes it in place. Window seat will also need a vent custom made for the radiator.

After your plaster has dried out and your final paint finish has been put on a carpenter can cut your window seat neatly into place, if you do it in a different order the moisture in the plaster will make the wood swell and have defects. A

Hi Chiara From our point of view we would suggest to have the room plastered and sealed with a mist coat / under coat and then we would make the bay window seat once thats done Hope that helps Regards, Team Five
