Filling the bottom of the fireplace with multi use pre mix concrete
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.57 PM
Hi there, I have read using modern cement mix mortar to repoint an old Victorian house is a no, no because of damp etc. Unfortunately I read this after i had filled the bottom of a small 2 by 3ft fireplace with a foot of multi use concrete to bring it level with the floor boards. So my question is am going to have the same problems and should I try dig it out?

Probably could have done with putting a membrane underneath before you did the levelling. It’s up to you if you wish to do it again, it also depends on if the slab is directly close to ground level or is it floating? If it is not directly on ground level then damp will not be an issue. The issue with the mortar mix type on the brickwork is a separate issue. Hope this helps.
