Round thing Connected under basin, Dont Know what it is thanks.

Hi, I have a round shaped thing under my basin. On one side its looks to be connected to water fittings and on the other side its connected to the basin waste fitting. Its my first time seeing this, so i relly dont know what it is and whats it for, So can anyone please have a look and tell me what it is and whats it for.
