Why only Showers running out of hot water

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

I use to get 45 mins of hot showers on a 40 gal power vent gas rheem upto. The heater was 1 year old and plumbers kept saying it’s the heater so I replaced it with Bradford white 50 gal gas power vent and still same issue. I replaced the shower cartridges and even experimenting with low flow shower heads 2.5gpm any help is appreciated

It would depend on flow rates from the shower on how long your hot water would last. Plus every litre of hot water would be replaced with 1 litre of cold which brings down the over all temperatures. Let’s say using only hot water for this example. 200ltr cylinder at 10litres a min of flow would last 20 mins. That’s if 100% of the water stayed hot. But after 10 mins 100litres is used then 100 litres is replaced with cold meaning the 200l is now a mix of hot and cold (warm) then take into account water quality (scale) the efficiency becomes less and less. Hope this helps. MCI.
