Damp Proofing

Best options to "heat up" a brick porch with condensation/mould issues on walls?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

Hi My single skin brick porch internally has a build of condensation/mould in the winter. I've been told by some to use insulated Plasterboard inside but some say the mould still grows so what is correct? (Fyi I can't insulate externally as pebbledashed already) Also the inside roof of the porch is bare and covered only with MDF groove panels (will insulating this above help?, If so with?) Thank you in advance

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I would attach a timber frame to the inside use insulation in between the timbers then plasterboard and plaster it should make it a bit warmer in the area only problem you will lose about 120mm of space

The Electrical Group's Infrared heating technology. Damp is caused by excess moisture, conventional convection heating heats air, so when hot air & could air meet it causes condensation in the building, in your case the warm air from inside the house is traveling into the a unheated porch where a cold influx of cold air vacate/penetrates from windows/doors leaving you with damp from falling condensation.

Along with insulation you need air flow, clean air entering the room and circulating. A perma vent along with stud walls, insulation and plasterboard. If possible some low powered heating (electric underfloor) The ceiling to be celotex insulated leaving airflow between the joists then Plaster boarded
