Bleed screw just spins ?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

Hi hope everyone is keeping well. I have 30year old Myson radiators which work extremely well but I am having a problem bleeding one of them which is making a bit of a racket on heating up. Probably due to a small leak which is now fixed. The bleed screw just seems to spin ? Won't tighten to a stop and just spins when trying to undo? Yet there is no water/air released no matter the position of screw. Would really like to get radiator bled but am a bit baffled! Any advice would be appreciated. Keep well Regards JR Thanks for your thoughts. The radiator in question does not have a bleed valve . Bleed screw is straight into radiator? Could I try drilling hole in rad and sealing with self tapping screw and ptfe tape.? Any further advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JR

I'm afraid it might be done for if the threads snapped. I had to drill and tap the last one as I couldn't find a replacement anywhere. This may not be what you want to hear, but depending on the bleed valve you had, you can either change the whole bit or you'll have to get a whole new radiator..

Remove blanking cap on other end of radiator and fit a new valve in its place Obtainable from most plumbers merchant or diy store Have you tried to undo complete bleed assembly and the replace ??

Wosely (parts center) used to do brass nipples for replacement. It was commonplace to change worn bleed nipples when I began my apprenticeship. Not so much now days.
