Cracked shower waste in wetroom - why, and how to fix

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

Two months ago a fitter renovated my bathroom, including a wetroom installation. He reinforced the floor by adding some timber, inserted a wetroom tray, plumbed in it, tanked the area, tiled over it and siliconed the joints. Today, on removing the waste protector for cleaning underneath, I noticed a crack running all around the waste. It's pretty wide, and I'm concerned it will start leaking soon. Any ideas as to why the waste cracked like this? Is the item faulty, or badly installed? How to fix it, given the waste is part of the tray that's tiled all over? I presume the item is still under warranty, and as it was a supply and fit quote, the cost of a new waste/tray should be picked up by the fitter. Is he entitled to charge for the work to fix the issue, though? Many thanks. Many thanks.

This should not have happened. The fitter is definitely not entitled to charge as the work should be still be under warranty.

Fitter has overtightened the waste fitting causing it to crack. You may be able to access it from below by cutting ceiling out and replacing the fitting.

Should be fitted for free. If the item was damaged in the first place installation should not of taken place and the tray replaced. If damaged by the fitter through poor installation/ over tightening/ not supported correctly the cost is on them
