Flattening protruding wall with toilet waste pipes behind
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM
Hi all, We're in the process of replacing our bathroom, it's an old 60s style, the cistern is one of the bulky ones (you may remember the shell effect looking ones). Behind the toilet, there is a wall that protrudes by about 250mm, with (I'm assuming) the waste pipes etc behind, is there alternative solutions available now, so we can flatten the wall, ideally we'd like a combi vanity unit, but it would only work, if we could get rid of the protrusion.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I did a lot of "protusion" removal but this mostly involve also the toilet repositioning.
Without a survey I cannot give you a better answer.

You could reroute the the soil stack outside.

I'd just advise on you building a stud wall from the soil stack boxing if space isn't an issue.
Waste and cold water feed would need alterations but pretty simple stuff.

Sometimes if the soil pipe goes down into the floor it is forward of the wall. This can be caused by the older washdown style w/c’s where the pan is forward of the wall.
If this is the case it’s the soil pipe position that will dictate if it’s worth removing the boxing or not.
