Foundations for extension

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

I'm having an extension built 3x4 rear of house. The company came today and started the digging the foundations. They have now stopped after telling me the house is built on a raft.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I think it would be wise to involve a structural engineer

Raft foundations are sometimes used if the ground conditions don't suit strip foundations I.e. deep clay. You should consult a structural engineer to find the best solution for incorporating the extension foundations into the house foundations. Building control will only accept a raft foundation if a structural Design is provided.
