New tiled floor moving and can hear grating sound
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
Hi we have just had some work completed on the house which included a re-modelled bathroom. The tiles on the floor move when walked on and you can hear a grating sound. Is this normal? They have been down around a week but as they were still working in there until yesterday this is the first time I’ve walked on them so only just noticed it.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No tiles should move overtime the grout lines will break or possibly the tiles themselves. The floor below the tiles sounds as though it's not been done right.

Absolutely agree with the gentlemen up there.
The actual floor can be issue or the tile job wasn't done properly.

The tiles should definitely not move when walked on.. It sounds like they used the wrong adhesive when laying the tiles or poor preparation.

Do you know wether they used any form of matting or cement board? Did they tile straight over floor boards?
If you tap tiles around the floor does it sound hollow or solid?
