Condensation and damp problem in the roof & upstairs
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
We are experiencing a worsening condensation/damp problem in our house during winter. It's a 1920s mid terrace house, the roof is insulated and boarded, the north side of the house during winter gets a lot of condensation on the roof felt, this winter it has gotten worse and is now dripping onto and damaging our bedroom ceiling below, as well as damp around the bedroom window (on same side of the house). Not sure who is best to turn to here, an insulation export? Roofer? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Ikeynes, I work as an electrician for a company who work on government grants to help combat damp and condensation. I would recommend either installing grills in the soffits to help ventilate the space IF you don’t have the space in the soffits to do so a roof tile would need to be installed. Your issue is that the space isn’t breathing. Hope this helps.

you need ventilating cross bonded at the eaves, even breathable felt creates this issue if not vented correctly.
good luck Alex

Having dealt with and solved condensation in homes for over 36 years I can tell you that only mechanical ventilation will solve your issue no amount of roof vents will achieve the results you need. Consider the installation of a Nuaire PIV inside the loft. This will solve and cure your issue.
