Mysterious damp patches in the middle of the wooden floorboards

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

There are random wet patches that come and go on the wooden floorboards. I cut some of the floorboards out and there is no damp underneath so I assumed it was tracking along the boards. Put a heater on the floorboards and they dried out. Came back to the house a few days later and they are back....even on the floorboards that aren't even attached to the floor. The patches come and go, but have gradually gotten worse. This is on the first floor, and there is no damage to the ceiling on the ground floor underneath. The house is empty and has been for over a year, not heated. I have photos but can't find how to add them on here.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There is no easy answer, condensation is a prospect but unlikely on the 1st floor. This could be pipe/radiator leak that travels along the boards due to sagging.. Lift the boards and check pipework etc. Had that issue recently, push-fit was force connected and was leaking and another one on radiator connection.. Trust this can help

If the house is not heated in any way, or has not been for as long as you say, then you should be happy that damp is only appearing on your floor boards. Without any heating for such a long time, damp/condensation will always find the coldest spots in the house either on walls or floorboards.
