Gas Works

Easier to get a new/2nd gas meter to gain gas for the new extension in a 2 storey flat?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

I have started building an extension onto a London property (multi flats) where the gas meter is outside at the front. The gas stops upstairs in the middle of the property. To get gas downstairs into the new property I am advised that the pipes will need to be bigger and the route is complicated and approx 10 metres away - with a very complicated route into my flat ie under the communal entrance with original tiles. I am starting to think it might be easier and faster to put a new gas meter in and treat the upstairs area separate from the downstairs area. This would also enable the 2 flats to be operate separately as rentals. 1) Does anyone know if this is possible? 2) if yes, any idea of lead times 3) Are there any other pros and cons of doing this gas work. I cant imagine doing a stir fry on electric as that seems t be the only other option! Thank you so much for your expert views. Anne

Maybe easier to a dedicated gas supply to the new build if this makes sense. The task had been planned would be easier to add descriptions. Maybe the easiest alternative route would be hard wired cable - cooking electric, heating and hot Water.. Hope this helps pd
