40A MCB for oven hob

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi again , thanks for answering my previous questions regarding the oven and hob cable size . Can i run this 10mm cable from a 40A MCB to Oven and Hob , total is 15KW ( is 40A MCB sufficient ) FYI : ( my kitchen fitter is doing it and he is quite experienced , he says its fine , but i will not be able to get a certificate for this )

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A 40A protective device is fine on a 10mm2 cable. I don't understand your kitchen fitters comments about certification. You can issue a certificate. A kitchen fitter can't unless he has electrical qualification to do so. That's probably what he means. An electrician can.

Kitchens are defined as a special location within BS7671 - so works such as wiring a new circuit should only be carried out by an installer who is registered with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC ELECSA or NAPIT. Failure to have this work properly certified may cause problems during a future house sale as the certificates are usually needed during the process

If they are 2 separate appliances they need to be on 2 separate circuits so you are providing adequate protection for each appliance.

Hi i agree with the above answer i strongly recomend you get an electrician in and not a cowboy kitchen fitter as you need a 40A supply and 32A supply as combined rating is 65A for you 15kW oven an hob so you need to split the load really as you will more than likely get some overload issues which will make the MCB trip out
