Laying slabs outdoors

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM

I started laying slabs in the autumn when the weather was fine and didn't get a chance to finish up before being called away for work. Now I'm back I'd like to finish if possible. My question is, is it possible to finish the job off to make it safer where slabs have been lifted ready to be laid. Or will the concrete not set properly and have no strength with the weather being cold about 5-10 degrees (or sometimes less in December) this time of year? Should I be waiting for the warmer weather? Cheers Rob

No you will be fine, make sure you try to use a cement mix that doesn't contain to much water, once you've finished for the day cover with a tarpaulin just to keep the Frost off

Or you could add a frost proofer to your mix. Most builders merchants sell it and its cheap

Yeah use a mortar mix also make it more stiff with less water and mix some cement a water sultry in a bowl with a brush and paste the back of the slab and then lay it at then end of the job cover the area with tarpaulin sheeting

No you will be fine there should only be concern using cement in freezing conditions. You can buy frost proofer from toolstation or any building supplier to add to your mix and if your expecting bad weather to come in straight away during installation you can cover the job with a hessian sheet. Good luck
