How do I remove a temperature tap handle?

I want to remove the central temp control tap handle to access the maximum temperature gage because my shower is running too cold, even on max temperature (other taps in house are hot enough). I need to remove the cross shaped tap in between the two on off bars (see pic in this link here https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/trafalgar-traditional-triple-thermostatic-shower-package-with-head-handset I have unscrewed the cap and taken the screw out, but I now can't get the tap off! Any ideas? I recall when I first installed it, it was as simple as pushing it on and rotating it. until it was secure, but now it wont come off no matter how much I turn it or pull it. Any tips would be hugely appreciated.
